Gag drawings for the abandoned short Streubel Peter (1936). The story was based on Der Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffmann, a book translated in 1891 by Mark Twain as Slovenly Peter. The book came to Walt’s attention thanks to Eleanor Roosevelt in 1934. The Disney artists never managed to turn the violent Peter into an appealing character.

Storyboard drawings for the Silly Symphony Three Blind Mouseketeers (1936).

Character designs created for the Silly Symphony Elmer Elephant (1936) or its abandoned sequel Timid Elmer (1937). Courtesy: Dennis Books and Disney’s Animation Research Library.
